Cultural Dimensions
While working in different countries in the world you become aware of the differences in culture. Prof. Geert Hofstede studied and published many books about Cultural Dimensions. Many differences between countries can be explained by comparing the 5 Cultural Dimensions;
Power Distance, Individualism, Masculinity, Uncertainty Avoidance and Long-term Orientation.
Cultural Dimensions are also present in companies and often explain why things are as they are……
The following is an interview with Geert Hofstede
Deming Circle (continuous improvement)
The Deming circle is very simple but often very difficult to implement. Especially the check and act part of the circle is something people and organisations often fail to perform. They plan a lot and do whatever needs to be done. Unfortunately they fail to check the results of their actions and therefore can’t act on good or bad results. After a while people who were involved in the execution of the improvements (shop-floor workers and middle management) lose their faith in the potential for change. They get frustrated and give up the hope and willingness for further improvements. That is where the circle of Continuous Improvement stops.
